EOC programs

EOC will now be providing food packages by delivery only through the Mobile Food Pantry. The on-site pantry at 39 Bath St. in Ballston Spa is closed.

The Kitchen is open during its regularly scheduled hours. It is providing meals to go.

While classrooms are currently closed and home-visits are currently on hold, Head Start staff continue to serve enrolled families. Each enrolled family has a point person on staff, who is making weekly check in calls. Should you need anything or don’t know who your contact person is, call 518-288-3206 and ask for Molly.

Immigrant Services staff are continuing to provide interpreting and advocacy services to the immigrant community remotely via telephone, email and video conference. For assistance, please call: 518-937-7240.

WIC has made the following adjustments. 

– All temporary site locations are closed.
– We will be contacting all participants with scheduled appointments.
– Most WIC appointments will be handled over the phone.
– Arrangements will be made for those appointments that cannot be handled or completed by phone.

Weatherization is currently closed. But you can still start an application here. 

The VITA program (income tax filing assistance) is currently suspended. Tax Day has moved to July 15, so income tax return filers who owe money have until July 15 to submit their taxes. We will post updates when VITA operations resume.


The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) issues electronic benefits that can be used like cash to purchase food. SNAP helps low-income working people, senior citizens, the disabled and others feed their families. Here’s a link to apply for SNAP.   Here’s a flyer regarding SNAP during COVID-19. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: That due to the COVID 19 crisis, SNAP recipients who were due to recertify for benefits in March, April or May of 2020 will be given a three-month extension of SNAP benefits.  SNAP recipients will NOT be sent a notice of this extension of benefits or the new deadlines for recertification.

WIC is for income-eligible pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, infants and children up to age five. Here’s a link to start the application process for WIC.

The Food Pantries for the Capital District has compiled a list of hours of and access to area food pantries. We recommend calling ahead to verify information is still updated.

Free and Reduced Price Lunches for K-12 students:

NYS is waiving the 7-Day waiting period for Unemployment Insurance benefits for people who are out of work due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) closures or quarantines.  Here is a link to file for unemployment through the Department of Labor.  Telephone filing services have been extended through Saturday.

The New York State Department of Labor has launched a job board with nearly 50,000 immediate hiring opportunities. 

Economic Impact Payments: The distribution of economic impact payments will begin in the next three weeks and will be distributed automatically, with no action required for most people. Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file to receive a payment. Instead, payments will be automatically deposited into their bank accounts. However, some people who typically do not file returns will need to submit a simple tax return to receive the economic impact payment. Learn more here.

NY COVID-19 Emotional Support Hotline: If you are overwhelmed right now, the support line is staffed by specially trained volunteers who can help. Call 1-844-9314. Here’s is the Office Of Mental Health’s tips on how to manage stress during COVID-19 and other anxiety-provoking situations. 

HOPELINE: Home is considered one of the safest place to be. But for some people who are struggling with addiction, being at home can pose a risk related to alcohol, substance abuse, and gambling. Call the Hopeline at 1-877-846-7369. Text: 467369. It’s available all day and night.
