Communications and Outreach Specialist

Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council seeks a Communications and Outreach Specialist to execute agency communications and outreach strategies that support its efforts to increase economic opportunity, strengthen families and provide pathways to self-sufficiency for low-income community members in Saratoga County. The Communications and Outreach Specialist is responsible for designing and executing agency communications materials including digital and physical content, as well as maintenance of social media outlets and website. The Specialist also engages diverse community audiences through presentations and outreach events to promote agency visibility and donor and volunteer opportunities. In close collaboration with the executive team, the Communications and Outreach Specialist will support fundraising events and activities.

The Communications and Outreach Specialist will join a team of hard-working professionals using their skills to alleviate poverty in Saratoga County and should be passionate about issues related to child well-being, families, seniors, homelessness, immigrants, economic opportunity and community development; be an exceptional writer with a strong eye for detail and dedication to accuracy; and adept at juggling multiple projects and deadlines and translating complex jargon to move hearts and minds. They also should be great listeners who can grasp the needs of various audiences.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related field and two years of work experience. Alternate combinations of educational and relevant professional experience will be considered.
  • Ability to work with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, and Photoshop

Compensation:   Salary – $35,000 – $38,000 commensurate with experience

Lead Early Childhood/UPK – Center Director  –  Saratoga Springs  This position serves as a primary caregiver in a classroom of Early Head Start children by planning, implementing, and supervising all classroom routines and activities. Shares responsibility for parent involvement in the program and linking parents with their family and health advocates. Will be responsible for daily center-based program functioning while assisting the Region Manager in providing leadership and implementing assigned functions of the site in the areas of child and family services, fiscal, human resources, transportation/vehicles, facilities, food services, inventory, child safety and technology.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Position requires a BS in Early Childhood plus one year of supervision and one year in a classroom as well as a NYS Teacher Certification N-6 with preschool experience.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Offering $17.78/hr + an additional .25 when Center Director approved.

Lead Early Childhood/Center Director  –  South Glens Falls This position serves as a primary caregiver in a classroom of Early Head Start children by planning, implementing, and supervising all classroom routines and activities. Shares responsibility for parent involvement in the program and linking parents with their family and health advocates. Will be responsible for daily center-based program functioning while assisting the Region Manager in providing leadership and implementing assigned functions of the site in the areas of child and family services, fiscal, human resources, transportation/vehicles, facilities, food services, inventory, child safety and technology.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Position requires a BA in Early Childhood with 1 year of supervision experience and 1 year teaching in an early childhood program.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Offering $17.26/hr +.25 when Center Director approved.

Assistant Teachers – Clifton Park & Saratoga (full year)  This position works with the Teacher in developing activities for preschool children to provide them with varied experiences and an appropriate learning environment. Works with typically developing children and children with disabilities. Assistance is given to the teacher in carrying out the goals, policies, and activities designed to implement educational objectives and performance standards. This position works with families to promote parent involvement in the program.  Minimum requirement is CDA (Preschool) credential or higher (Associates or Bachelors in Early Childhood Education) plus experience working with young children. Valid driver’s license required.  40 hrs/wk, $11.94/hr.

Family Advocate – Mechanicville Supports the role of parents in family well-being and positive parent-child relationships by encouraging parent involvement in Head Start while providing advocacy and social service guidance based on family goals.  Responsible for recruiting eligible children and introducing families to all Head Start options and other EOC programs. Completes initial application and eligibility assessment for all children.  Identifies child and family needs for center-based families. Provides referrals and follow-up to all EOC programs and community agencies. Advocates for children and families to secure access to and assistance from appropriate sources. Provides case management for center-based families and facilitates case management meetings and conferences in conjunction with the health and education service areas. Associates Degree in Human Services and at least 2 years’ experience in a human services field.    Position requires strong advocacy skills relating to health and social services in support of families.  Must have knowledge of community resources and the skills to link families to the appropriate agencies and services.  Working knowledge of governmental and social services programs and resources Valid driver’s license is necessary.  $11.68/hr, 40hrs/wk.

Health Advocate –  Clifton Park and Ballston Spa (full year)  Ensuring that families have health insurance coverage and an ongoing source of continuous, accessible health and dental care. HS Diploma/GED and two years’ experience in a related field working in public health or nutrition required. Valid driver’s license required.  Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain basic first aid and CPR certification. Required to be MAT trained and certified to pass medications as needed. $11.68/hr, 40 hrs/wk, 51 wks/yr.

Home Visitors – positions in Malta, Saratoga and Corinth (full year) This position is responsible for supporting families who are not in a class setting to move toward school readiness. The Home Visitor works with families to assesses and identify barriers that impede school readiness and strengths that encourage school readiness.  The position is mobile and requires staff to complete home visits as described. Requirements are a minimum of a home-based CDA credential or comparable credential, or equivalent coursework (12 Early Childhood Education credits) as part of an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree. Knowledge and experience in Child Development and Early Childhood Education; the principles of child health, safety and nutrition; adult learning principles; and family dynamics. Experience working with young and preschool age children is a must. Must have knowledge of community resources and the skills to link families to the appropriate agencies and services.   Must have a reliable vehicle and valid license required.  Mileage reimbursement is offered along with 40 hrs/wk, $12.70/hr.

Office Assistant –  Based in our main office, this position serves as the administrative assistant to the Head Start Director, Assistant Director and the Head Start Service Area Managers. Provides administrative support to the Head Start Program and the staff.  Duties include but are not limited to phones, mail, internal and external correspondence, meeting preparation and maintaining the department calendar.  Assist with meeting logistics, such as child care arrangements, snacks, and room set-up. Coordinates with volunteers for assembling packets and materials. Plans and oversees a system of compliance and maintenance for program files, reports, correspondence, newsletters, meeting minutes, training logs, safety logs, etc. Works with Director for ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment.  Implement systems to track program participants, volunteers and special event participants. Experience in a similar role is preferred.  Must have excellent computer and communication skills. Knowledge of social media tools a plus!  A clean valid driver’s license and HSD/GED required.

Teacher Aide/Floater for Saratoga  – Candidate must be willing to work where needed in Saratoga County to assist the Lead and Assistant Teachers with daily Head Start classroom needs throughout the County.  Must be flexible with schedule to fill in for vacancies and absences when and where needed. Must have High School Diploma/GED and experience in a Preschool classroom is helpful.  30 hrs/wk, full year, $11.28/hr.

Teacher Aide for Clifton Park  – Will assist the Lead and Assistant Teachers with daily Head Start classroom needs.  May fill in for vacancies and absences when and where needed.  Must have High School Diploma/GED and experience in a Preschool classroom is helpful.  30 hrs/wk, school year, $11.28/hr.

Fiscal Director

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, directs the fiscal activities of all SCEOC programs.  Primary focus on fiscal management of grants, monitoring program operating budgets, maintaining accurate accounting of all agency funds and preparing expenditure reports.  Fiscal management of all grants supporting SCEOC requiring familiarity with each budget, budget categories, reporting requirements and timetables. Supervises and monitors agency accounting procedures to insure internal controls and segregation of duties. Monitors program operating budgets so as to insure fiscal viability of the agency, maintains accurate accounting of all funds.  Monitors the accurate and timely processing of payroll checks, payroll procedures, and payroll variations.  Supervises, monitors, and evaluates Fiscal/HR Assistants. Must have a baccalaureate degree in accounting, business, fiscal management, or a related field required. Supervisory experience required, with 5 years’ experience in a position of significant fiscal responsibility. Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Ability to write reports, procedures, business correspondence.

 

Assistant Director of Energy Services/Weatherization

Will assist in the daily operations of the Energy Services/Weatherization Department. Supervise on-site work of weatherization crew and auditor, provide technical assistance as needed. Coordinate the work activities of the agency’s HVAC technician. Schedule customers for energy audits. Perform energy audits in accordance with guidelines set by the Division of Housing and Community Renewal’s (DHCR) Bureau of Energy Affordability and the agency’s Weatherization Assistance Program. Performs Quality Control Inspections and certifies project completion.  Must have an Associate’s Degree in business, engineering, environmental science or related field preferred with Analyst certification and a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience. OR 4 years of energy conservation, weatherization, renewable energy, construction trade or related fields with ability to attain Analyst certification and 2 years supervisory experience. Supervisory experience in a building construction or engineering environment.  Energy certifications will be required to maintain position: Analyst, Quality Control Inspection, Envelope, Heating and Manufactured Homes.  A clean, valid New York State driver’s license

Energy Services Auditor Performs Energy Audits for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and assigns crews to complete scheduled work projects for both WAP and Empower/NYSERDA Programs.   Assists in the daily operations of the Energy Services Department. Coordinate on-site work of weatherization Crew Chiefs & Crews while providing technical assistance.  Ensure work standards meet the minimums set forth in the Standard Work System (SWS).Schedule customers for energy audits and perform audits in accordance with guidelines set by the Division of Housing and Community Renewal’s (DHCR), Bureau of Energy Affordability and the EOC’s Weatherization Assistance Program. Obtain and maintain the following certifications:  BPI Analyst, Heating and Mobile Home. Observe, analyze and evaluate homes using BPI standards based on appropriate building science techniques.  Educate clients on ways to save energy within their homes.

Must have an Associate’s Degree in related field, HSD/GED required. Supervisory experience in a building construction or engineering environment is necessary.  BPI certification as an Auditor in the fields of Envelope and Building Analyst a plus but we are willing to train. Working knowledge of modeling software such as TREAT, EmpCalc or similar. Utilize math skills and carpentry knowledge to evaluate and solve problems.  Knowledge of various HVAC systems including hydronic heating systems, steam heating systems, and forced air heating systems. Electrical knowledge helpful but not required. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with people of diverse social and economic backgrounds. Ability to work well under pressure and exercise good judgement. Maintain a positive attitude with staff and clientele. A clean, valid New York State driver’s license.

 

 

 

Part-time Soup Kitchen Assistant

Saratoga County EOC is seeking a part-time Soup Kitchen Assistant to help oversee the preparation and serving of meals at our community lunch program in Saratoga Springs. We are looking for a passionate individual who wants to give back to their community. The Soup Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for overseeing meal preparation, serving and coordination of volunteers. This position is two-days per week 9:00am-1:30pm on Saturday, plus one additional week day (candidates interested in a bi-weekly/every other week, rotating schedule will also be considered).  Position offers $14.50 per hour.  Saratoga County EOC’s Soup Kitchen is proud to serve full, healthy and diverse meals to low-income community members, including senior citizens, families, homeless individuals and seasonal workers. Basic kitchen knowledge and meal prep skills are desired, as well as comfortability working with people from diverse backgrounds.
